Debt Free Women
I have to be honest with you; many people admire women who are super stars in movies or those who are popular or have gorgeous model bodies. Although there is nothing wrong with these women heck, looking good and being popular is cool I guess. However I believe that a debt free woman is the epitome of grace and absolutely my true hero.
You see, debt free women not only have financial peace they are confidence, self reliant, have high self esteem and a sense of pride. In addition, they give back to their community and help others achieve similar goals. Debt free women know the importance of sacrificing and being smart with their money. They elude a certain pride that is just plain sexy.
A few debt free women that I know are my grandmother, mother, godmother and auntie. These women may not be famous to the everyday person but to me, they are the epitomes of financially smart women who refused to use debt as their crutch. All of them the money to do the things they want to do. Whether it be traveling, giving to the needy or simply “kicking up their heels” and having fun.
They aren’t waiting for the government to fund their expenditures and could care less about the current economic crises. They don’t care because they are debt free and having the time of their lives.
Here are some of their favorite sayings that these debt free women have taught me:
- It’s not how much money you make but how much money you keep
- A penny saved is a penny earned
- You can do anything if you believe
- Always save for a rainy day
- Live below your means
- Always have “mad money” put aside
Many of these same principles are also taught by renowned experts like Suze Orman and Dave Ramsey and they work. I know that they work because my grandmother, godmother and auntie are proof. These are just some of the principles that they have taught me over the years and you know what, they really work well. These debt free women are living a life full of happiness and prosperity and they are not in debt in any way. They are my heroes and one day I plan on joining the ranks of debt free women too!
I concur. I have to say that all of the many years in my pursuit of higher education, I have learned three things: (1) Stop accumulating debt (2) Pay off your debt and (3) Pay for everything with cash. I didn’t have to take out any student loans for this piece of knowledge. So, where am I now? I am working my way out of debt which over 80% is student loans and the other 20% will be paid off by July 2009. If I knew then what I know now…I am almost positive I would not have pursued a graduate degree.
I enjoyed the tips from the debt free women. I have actually heard most these myself from my mother and aunties. It was nice to get the reminder. Have a great day!
